Solutions

Tier One Grinding works with shops that need end-to-end support for their OD/ID cylindrical grinding operations — whether you run Studer, Okamoto, or other CNC grinders. On-site or remote, we bring 14+ years of hands-on grinding applications engineering.

Grinding Applications Engineering

We develop the entire process around your application — from selecting the right abrasive, bond, and wheel spec for your material to engineering the complete grinding cycle. We handle tolerance requirements as tight as ±0.00005" and work with you from prototype through production.

Grinding Cycle Programming

Expert programming of all major grinding cycles: plunge with and without oscillation, angle plunge, multi-plunge, multi-plunge on taper, traverse grinding, shoulder plunge, shoulder traverse, contour/subroutine cycles, and multi-profile for free wheel shape. We program via Pictogramming, StuderWIN, StuderSIM, and Graphical Interactive Software.

CNC Programming & Setup

Full machine programming and setup on Studer, Okamoto, and other CNC OD/ID grinding platforms. From initial machine configuration to optimized cycle times, we get your grinder producing quality parts efficiently.

Dressing & Diamond Selection

Comprehensive dressing system design and diamond selection — single point diamonds, grain fliese, needle fliese, impregnated diamonds, PCD diamonds, rotary diamonds, CVD sintered diamond roll dressers, and form roll dressers. Includes length positioning active probe setup for precision dress compensation.

Abrasive & Wheel Selection

Deep knowledge of Aluminum Oxide, Silicon Carbide wheels in Form 1 and 1N shapes, plus CBN wheels in Vitrified Bond, Resin Bond, and Plated configurations for ID grinding. We match the right abrasive, bond, and grit to your material, tolerance, and surface finish requirements.

Workholding Design

Hands-on experience with dead centers, female centers, live centers, face drivers, open steady rests, 3 and 4 jaw chucks, magnetic chucks, pneumatic chucks, hydra-locks, collets, threaded arbors, taper arbors, and expanding mandrels. We design and implement workholding solutions for rigidity, repeatability, and accessibility on both OD and ID operations.

Operator Training

Hands-on training for your operators on cylindrical and internal grinders — from basic machine operation and blueprint reading to advanced cycle programming, process optimization, precision measurement techniques, and maintenance routines. Bilingual training available in English and Spanish.

Troubleshooting & Burn Analysis

Rapid diagnosis and resolution of burn, chatter, tolerance, and surface finish issues — on-site or remotely. Experienced in temper etch inspection and burn root cause analysis on ground components. We identify whether the issue is process, wheel, dressing, or machine related and implement lasting corrective actions.
